.@RedTapeChron was the first to obtain evidence from a consumer, Kathy Sandy, that Equifax was cross-contaminating salary and work data. But his piece is legendary for 3 reasons: first, he saw the matrix. Kathy brought him a 22 page credit report. He read it. And investigated. — Joel Winston (@joelwinston) April 6, 2019
This practice, and the Equifax specialty credit reporting agency behind it, were not well known at the time. And Equifax publicly denied they engaged in this type of “cross-contamination.”

What does that mean? Equifax operates a credit bureau that collects payroll & salary data. So If you get fired, Equifax knows that week. Equifax leverages this knowledge by selling “employment status alerts” to lenders, banks, mortgage companies & debt collectors.

Snapshot of a culture under siege. Our attempt to show what it feels like in Xinjiang right now. Blanketed with surveillance technology and checkpoints, the ancient Silk Road city has the feel of an open-air prison. https://t.co/JdtFEPCw68 — Paul Mozur (@paulmozur) April 4, 2019
When the story of the fight against modern credit reporting surveillance is written, this 2013 investigation by @RedTapeChron will be remembered as the turning point. Bob was the first to confirm that Equifax is cross-contaminating credit files. https://t.co/AHP1CIID2b

None of us are as smart as all of us. I'm lucky enough to have some access to people with answers and power through my day job. If you don't have that same privilege, please send me some burning questions, and I'll try to get them answered. 5/5 — (((Ron Lieber))) (@ronlieber) April 5, 2019

Dear @Equifax – why do I have to give away all my legal rights just to request my free annual credit report disclosure from your website? Dear @FTC & @CFPB – you awake over there? https://t.co/6YCGf83XYB #ForcedArbitration #FCRA #WTF cc @ChiChiWu8 @MikeLittUSA
